The Women's Fund of El Paso was established in 2004 after representatives from the YWCA El Paso Del Norte Region, University of Texas at El Paso and Junior League of El Paso completed a study entitled “El Paso Portraits: Women’s Lives, Potential and Opportunities” to assess the state of women in El Paso. The study found a great disparity of income and education among women in El Paso, including 38,000 single mothers and their children. The study became a call to action.
The Women’s Fund of El Paso was established to connect women with resources available in the community and offer educational advancement and leadership development opportunities for their economic advancement.
Since its inception, the Women’s Fund has awarded 145 scholarships for over $200,000; 30 scholarships for the terrific teens for $15,000 for leadership development; and $10,000 in giving circles for education and leadership development. The scholarships and grants were made possible by proceeds from the signature Power of the Purse event and other generous donations.
